Here’s one of my favorite challenging treks just 35 kms from Lisbon. It starts at Praia Grande and goes to Praia do Abano – the beach next to the surfers paradise beach of Guincho in Cascais. This route is a very accentuated rough terrain of loose rocks, steep hills and wonderful beaches – a dramatic scenery hill after hill.
Some beaches are only access-able through ropes that the fishermen use to get down to the rocks. The Atlantic Ocean here is very rough and strong north winds are constant – so much so that it can only be trekked with good weather, even then only experienced trekkers with adequate equipment try it. The 15 km route is characterized by 6,09 kms uphill of +1.214,5 m, 6,53kms downhill -1.201,6 m – a mere 6:57 hrs to accomplish the feat.
