A Walk a Week – Muro da Sirga

One of the most beautiful regions of Portugal is the so called “Alto Alentejo” (Upper Alentejo Region) and it’s specially note worthy at this time of the year when Spring is at it’s most!

Here’s a beautiful days trek at the “Muro da Sarga” which is a towpath that was built for the beasts of burden to pull the provision barges up stream on the Tejo River as far as Toledo, Spain. This path and many others were kept in use until the construction of the railway routes around 1891. Now-a-days, its what you see, a romantic reminiscence of the past.
