Have you ever stopped to think that cobble stoned roads and sidewalks are manually placed stone by stone? Traditionally they are done so here in Portugal by “Calceteiros” (comes from calçadas = sidewalks).
Lisbon is full of cobble stone roads and limestone sidewalks. Lovely to see but hard to tread, specially for stylish stilettos and I will not further the description of the well known “slip dancing” on wet days :)!
For the less adventurous, I highly recommend visiting Portuguese cities wearing low heal pumps, that is, if you insist in wanting to go stylish. For the stubborn, keep to the challenging high heal stilettos and develop the art of balancing out on your toe tips! Elegantly, obviously…great fun!
